Dry October Pattern

Summary

A high-pressure ridge will dominate the NW weather for about a week or more. This will mean mainly dry weather with chilly mornings, some valley fog. The ridge of high pressure may last beyond mid-month.

Short Term Forecast

The dry pattern will mean no snow for the Cascades until at least later in October. I thought the pattern might change by the 20th, but recent model runs now indicate that is not likely and the ridge might stick with us for a while longer. Below the model shows the sharp ridge on Tuesday 16th and it's not moving much.

Typically in late October, the weather shifts to a more active pattern, but now the models are leaning toward the ridge sticking around and remaining dry.

Extended Forecast

I must admit, I am uneasy about this tenacious ridge setting up. I am ok in the short term (next 10 days) with this setup, but it's late in the month I am concerned. Late October should start to show, the pattern with increasing confidence as the storms usually become stronger and more frequent. Now, it's too early to be overly anxious, but it did catch my eye.
