New snow Monday, then the dreaded rain on snow for midweek

Summary

A weather system moving though Sunday into early Monday will produce 5-15" of new snow with a snow level of 4000ft. Monday will see some partial clearing, with a lull. Tuesday through Thursday a warm front , with a possible atmospheric river will bring lots of rain and mild temperatures, as snow levels soar to 9,000ft. Cooler weather on Friday will improve conditions.

Short Term Forecast

Expect a fine ski day on Monday with abundant new snowfall and a little sun by afternoon. Big powder day on Monday for Mt Baker, Crystal and Whistler.  Enjoy, because Tuesday through Thursday will see a mild pattern with heavy rain on snow, with warm southwesterly flow. It won't destroy the snowpack, but we will lose a bit of the pack, especially from the lower elevations, where pack is still shallow. The rain will consolidate the pack on the medium and higher elevations, so that is a positive.

Extended Forecast

Friday we will recover with lower snow levels, induced by cooler westerly flow. It will be time to head back to the slopes. The weekend will see more unsettled weather, but snow levels may rise again with southwesterly flow.
