Layer Up Sunday & Monday...

Summary

Mostly sunny & breezy Saturday. Colder air and snow showers move through Sunday. Clearing but cold Monday into Tuesday. Drier weather continues through the 2nd with slight warming. Weak/moderate systems could return by Friday into next weekend.

Update

Saturday:

Mostly sunny skies and breezy winds for Saturday. Highs into the 30s on the mountain to near 40 degrees at the base. West winds increasing with ridgetop gusts up to 30-40+ mph by afternoon.

Sunday Cold & Snow:

Snow is expected to move in around 6-8 AM Sunday with a band of steady snow moving through during the morning. Then scattered snow showers diminish later in the day into Sunday evening. Much colder air pours south into the region with highs dropping into the 20s.

The winds drop off in the morning as the low moves over the region and then switch east and increase through the afternoon. Ridgetop gusts up to 30+ mph during the afternoon. That will make it feel even colder so layer up.

The snowfall forecast hasn't changed much over the last few days. Here is the updated forecast for totals expected by early Monday morning when the snowfall is measured and reported:

  • 2-5 inches at the base.
  • 3-6 inches at mid-mountain elevations.
  • 4-7 inches up top.

With the cold air, the snow ratios will be high with dry powdery snow falling on the mountain. The skiing should be fun Sunday, but it will be cold.

Monday - Thursday:

Monday will be sunny and cold with highs only in the teens on the mountain. Ridgetop winds from the east continue to be gusty making it feel even colder. Gusts up to 40+ mph up top. Overnight lows are in the single digits Sunday and Monday nights.

Mostly sunny skies continue through Thursday. Highs warming into the 30s, and near 40 degrees at the base by Wed - Thu. The winds become lighter starting Tuesday.

Long-Range:

By Friday, a trough is forecast to push into the West Coast. That could bring a return of storms next weekend. The latest model runs show a weak system possible on Friday and a weak/moderate storm on Sunday the 5th.

We'll continue to watch the trends all week to see if we could see more snow and how much.
