Quiet Start to the Week, Small Storm Late Week

Summary

This is the first time in weeks that the ten day forecast isn't showing huge totals. The super September may finally be losing some steam, but that doesn't mean we're done with winter just yet. After a few mostly dry days to start the week, we have a minor event starting on Wednesday. Some lingering light snow in the mid range with another small storm possible next week.

Short Term Forecast

Another strong storm delivered big totals in the central zone over the weekend. After the torrential rains flooded the lowlands, cooler temperatures arrived and delivered more spectacular September powder days. Corralco received 90 cms over 36 hours, while Nevados de Chillan received 80 cms and up to 70 cms fell at Cerro Bayo. This was yet another impressive September snow storm for this region.

Below are a few shots from yesterday as the storm cleared out.

While no major storms are on the horizon, we will not be high and dry either. Read on for the details.

Forecast for Monday 9/18 - Wednesday 9/21

I don't expect too much action for the early part of the week. Outside of some spotty snow showers on the Argentinian side of the northern zone, this three day period may be one of the longer dry stretches we've seen in a while. Overall, mostly calm and dry through Wednesday, with seasonable temperatures.

Forecast for Thursday 9/22 - Sunday 9/25

A small storm arrives as early as Wednesday night, providing light to moderate snow for the central zone through Friday. The snow will be heaviest Wednesday night and Thursday, with light snow lingering through the weekend. Overall, I don't expect more than 10 - 20 cms for Corralco and Pucon, with 5 - 15 cms elsewhere in the central zone. Las Lenas could come wind up in this range as well.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Monday 9/26 - Friday 9/30

The models are showing another similarly small storm for the early part of next week. Snow totals look to be < 20 cms with the storm possibly lingering through Wednesday. Things look to dry out toward the end of the week.
