Warm Phase of Recent Snow Storm Brings Massive Flooding to Lowlands

Summary

While high elevation snow was piling up in the central Andes last week, heavy rainfall pounded the lower elevations. Widespread flooding resulted in dangerous conditions and caused significant damage. Keep reading for some photos of the storm's impacts.

Short Term Forecast

Another strong atmospheric river brought significant rain over a short period of time to central Chile and Argentina. Most of the flooding took place in the region below, where the atmospheric river spent the most time. 

You can see the atmospheric river directed at this region from Friday the 15th to Saturday the 16th.

Residents were trapped in Llanada Grande and Cochamo due to the road damage show below.

You can see major river flooding in Panguipulli. 

Due to the large amounts of water added to the snowpack, some major avalanches came down onto roads that are typically too low for snow.
