South America Daily Snow

A Series of Small Storms
Summary
The first of three small storms will move into the region Friday afternoon bringing a round of moderate snow to the central and southern zones with high levels to start. Temperatures will fall as snow continues to fall through Saturday night/Sunday morning. A weaker storm will follow arriving on Monday night with some light snow through Wednesday. Another storm is possible later in the week.
Short Term Forecast
We'll stay active through the next seven to ten days but most of the storms will be on the weaker side and snow totals from any individual storm won't be that impressive. The first few storms will be a tad warm but at least we'll have chances for snow every few days during the period.
The first in the series of storms will get underway on Friday night with warm temperatures and snow levels likely above resort bases. We may even see some rain today before snow levels fall tonight and finally get below base elevations on Saturday. Strong winds are expected and the biggest totals are expected in the southern half of the central zone, around Antillanca, Volcan Osorno, and Pucon. These areas should see between 10 - 25 cm with totals dropping off farther north and south.
The latest snow forecast from the European model is shown below.
We'll have a short break and another warm-up on Sunday and Monday before the next storm rolls in. This one looks even weaker and will bring primarily light rain and snow. With warm temperatures initially, we may again see a period of rain before a cold front lowers snow levels Monday night. Only minor accumulations are expected but the next system will bring more light snow without much of a break. Action will continue through much of the week with additional light accumulations.
Extended Forecast
The upper-level low off the coast spawning these weaker storms is expected to move inland next weekend, and when that happens, some heavier precipitation is possible. Details are still a little fuzzy though so let's give the models a few more days to get some clarity.
Next update on Monday.
