Wind and snow heading to Steamboat
Summary
Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry, then we’ll see snow on Thursday, Saturday, and likely again next Monday into Tuesday.
Short Term Forecast
Wednesday will be cloudy and mostly dry through the afternoon with wind speeds increasing around and just after sunset.
On Wednesday night, a storm will bring a little snow and a lot of wind. We could see a coating to a few inches of accumulation by Thursday morning, and wind gusts could be faster than 50mph.
On Thursday, we’ll see lingering chances for flurries or light snow showers. Gusty winds could stick around with speeds between 20-40mph, which is somewhat uncomfortable but maybe just slow enough to not affect lift operations too much.
Friday will bring more sunshine, slower wind speeds, and chilly temperatures starting in the single digits and rising into the teens.
From Friday night through Saturday evening, the next storm will bring light snow, and again accumulations could be between a coating to a few inches. The softest turns should be during the day on Saturday.
Extended Forecast
On Sunday we will see another short break in the weather.
On Sunday night, the next storm will quickly approach with snow possible from Sunday night through Monday and maybe even continuing into Monday night. It is still too soon to make a confident estimate of snow totals, but at least a few inches of snow is likely, and turns on Monday should be soft.
Looking out through the end of January, the weather pattern will become more active near Colorado and we should see at least a few chances for snow with the next storms arriving sometime around January 21st and January 25th. Do your snow dance, wash your car, and think snowy thoughts as we really need this upcoming period of active weather to translate into big snow for us here in Colorado.
