Surfy snow on Saturday morning

Summary

We saw warmer, dense snow on Friday and Friday night, and this will mean surfy powder for Saturday morning's first chair.

Update

The storm delivered 3-4 inches of snow on Friday during the day, and on Friday night we received an additional 4-5 inches of snow, for a 24-hour total of 7-9 inches of dense powder.

Now on Saturday morning, conditions should be fun with new, dense snow that will (hopefully) do a decent job of covering the harder base below. Due to the warm temperatures during this storm, the snow will be surfy and not fluffy powder. Also, the most intense snowfall has moved south of the mountain as of Saturday at sunrise, so we will likely see light or no additional snow through the morning.

Saturday midday through Monday is a wildcard with more snow possible, but I (still) have low confidence in the details. Moisture and storm energy will linger over Colorado, and I think that the best chance for significant additional snowfall will stay south of Steamboat. But, it will be a close call. We should at least have snow showers during this time, and if we're lucky, a few inches (or more) of additional accumulation.

Tuesday should be a brief period of dry weather as we will be in between storms.

March 15-17 will be the time when we'll see our next storm, with snow possibly falling any time between Tuesday night and Friday morning. This storm should bring a lot of moisture, which can translate into a lot of snow if the storm energy tracks close to or over Colorado. Right now I am penciling in Thursday, March 16 as the day with the potential for the most powder.

In the distant future, it appears that the storm door will remain open and we could see more snow during the week of Monday, March 20 to Friday, March 24. This is good news, though it's still too soon to figure out the details of these potential storms.
