Update

Steamboat is one of the most northern mountains in Colorado, and because the storm track is hanging just to the north of our state, any slight deviation in the storm track can bring enough energy and moisture to Steamboat so that flakes fall from the sky. That’s what happened on Tuesday night when a mostly unforecasted wave of energy moved over northern Colorado and dropped a quick inch of snow on the mountain.

Now on Wednesday morning, the skies are mostly cloudy, and I honestly don’t know what will happen with the clouds during the next few days. Because we are close to the storm track, we may have enough moisture in the air so that skies are at least partly cloudy, if not mostly cloudy. If and when the sun breaks out, temperatures will warm nicely reaching into the 30s and low 40s.

The next chances for snow will be during weak storms on Friday night, Sunday night, and perhaps another one or two systems early next week. Each storm may provide 1-3 inches of snow. The next significant event should be on March 19-20, and then the longer-range models are trending toward a snowier forecast during the end of March and early April, so hopefully we will close out the season with a bang!
