Monday Morning Snow Report...

Update

Storm Recap:

As expected, the GFS model seems to have done the best with the system that moved through overnight. We saw very light snow showers across the Tahoe basin bringing a dusting to an inch to lake level, and 1-2 inches of snow to most mountains. The exception being near Donner Summit where 3-4 inches of snow fell overnight.

Here is a look at the base of Sugar Bowl...

They may have picked up 4-6 inches of snow in total over the weekend on the mountain. The rest of the mountains around the Tahoe basin picked up closer to 1-3 inches in total. I took a few pictures over at Homewood this morning where around an inch was on the ground at lake level.

And of course, people forgot how to drive in the snow and weren't prepared. I'm not sure why people always think a good way to avoid chain controls on I-80 is to try and go around on a more dangerous single lane road with cliffs.

The Forecast:

The snow showers will clear out today with some sun. It stays cold with highs in the 30's on the mountains and low 40's at lake level.

We start to warm up through the week as a weak ridge builds in into the weekend.

Highs into the 50's Tuesday and Wednesday, and then into the 60's Thursday through the weekend. Nice fall weather with temperatures near average!

Long-Range:

The long-range models suggest another trough for the West Coast in about 10 days from now.

That could bring the chance for another storm later the 2nd week of October.  Until then, it was nice to see a few systems bring snow here in September to reminds us winter is near. Now it's time to enjoy some normal fall weather.

The CFSv2 climate model is showing a drier than average October for CA with wetter than average in the Pacific NW.

Sounds about right for most Octobers to have the storms to our north. Of course, these models aren't very accurate historically. We will be watching, and I'll let you know when we could see the next snow!

Stay tuned...BA
