Sunday Storm Update...
Summary
Clouds increase Sunday with a chance for rain showers during the afternoon. The chance for rain showers will continue through Wednesday. Then clearing with nicer weather starting Thursday.
Update
A quick Sunday morning update... No significant changes to the forecast from the Friday post.
Low pressure is spinning along the CA coast Sunday morning.
That is increasing cloud cover over the Tahoe Basin.
The movement east will be slow through Wednesday. On radar this morning we can see the rain moving into CA from the west. Some showers are expected to reach the mountains by Sunday afternoon.
With the slow-moving nature of the storm and the southerly flow, the heaviest rain may stay to the west of the Tahoe Basin on the west slope. We are ok with that because that is where the Mosquito fire is burning and where we need the rain the most. The chance for showers may increase each day through Wednesday as the low moves east across the region.
The highest totals should be to our west, but we expect some rain around the Tahoe Basin. There is a question of how much. We may see an inch or less with 1-2+ inches west of the area through Wednesday. Some mountains could see a bit more over some areas around the basin if heavier bands are able to push through.
Snow levels will be 9000-10000+ feet throughout the period, so we are only expecting a little snow on the highest peaks.
The winds ahead of the storm fanned the flames of the fire Saturday. There are high hopes that this system will significantly quash the fire over the next few days.
It will be cooler with highs only in the 50s through Wednesday. Then sunny and milder starting Thursday through next weekend as high pressure builds back in over the West Coast.
The next chance for a storm looks to be around the end of the month. I'll be keeping an eye on that one for our next chance of early-season snow on the peaks...
Stay tuned...BA
