Just the storm that we need

Summary

There is a LOT of fresh snow as of Saturday morning, with some more on the way. Let's get this winter started!

Update

Reminder: This season is starting with a much lower snowpack compared to average and compared to last season, so there are only a handful of trails open at the moment. More terrain might open soon.

We saw 8 inches of snow on Friday and about 6 inches at mid-mountain on Friday night, and this brings our storm total to about 20 inches. Woohoo!

Telluride is a tough place to forecast, because, often, the good factors of moisture and storm energy compete against a poor wind direction, and it's hard to know which factors will 'win'. In this case, the snow won:-)

On Saturday, we'll see some flakes in the morning, and then we should see a lull in the snow during the midday and afternoon hours (there is a chance that accumulating snow continues as moisture will be adequate and storm energy will be nearby, but most models do show a lull during the afternoon). Temperatures will be in the teens.

From Saturday night to Sunday night, the next part of the storm will track to the north of Telluride, and Telluride will be on the southern edge of the storm, which leads to high uncertainty in the forecast. I'll go with 2-6 inches of accumulation during this time, and keep in mind that we could even be below or above this range if the storm tracks just a bit to the north or to the south. Temperatures will be in the 20s.

Monday is when the storm will finally leave Colorado. I am hopeful that any additional snow on Saturday night and Sunday and the benefit of time will allow operations crews to open more terrain across the mountain. Temperatures will be in the 20s.

Tuesday through Friday will be dry and pretty warm with high temperatures in the 30s to low 40s.

The next chance for snow will be during the weekend of Saturday, December 9 to Sunday, December 10. At the moment, it appears that this storm will bring low-to-moderate snow totals, though it could be a solid refresh with maybe more terrain open across the mountain.
