Watching storms for Friday and next Sunday/Monday

Summary

We'll see dry and cool weather through Thursday, and then there will be a chance for some snow on Friday, with a more significant storm likely from Sunday, January 7 to Monday, January 8.

Update

Thanks to the low sun angle and cool temperatures, snow conditions are hanging in there, and we are fortunate that 55% of the mountain's trails are open.

Saturday was a mostly sunny day with a warmer high temperature that touched the low 30s during the afternoon.

Sunday will bring more clouds and slightly cooler temperatures with a high in the upper 20s to low 30s. There might be a few snowflakes in the air during the midday, afternoon, and evening, but most forecast models show most/all flakes staying a little north of the mountain.

Coming up in the next week, we'll be dry through Thursday with high temperatures in the 20s, and then we'll keep our eye on two storms.

On Friday, January 5, a storm will track to our south but should be close enough to Colorado to bring us some snow from Thursday night through Friday. Accumulations could be in the 2-6 inch range, which would be good enough for a little refresh. Behind the storm, temperatures will be cooler with a high in the teens on Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday, January 6-7, we will likely stay dry, though there could be some flakes around if a storm to our north nudges a little closer to Colorado.

From later Sunday, January 7 to Monday, January 8, a stronger storm will bring snow and colder temperatures. At this point, I think snow accumulations will be reasonable, maybe in the 4-12 inch range, with the best chance for softer snow (maybe enough for "Powder") being on Monday morning. The temperature on Monday will be cold with a high likely in the single digits.

For the rest of that week, from Tuesday, January 9 through at least Friday, January 12, we will likely see the cold air stick around with high temperatures in the single digits to maybe teens, and there will be additional chances for snow. However, if the air is very cold, moisture will be limited, and snow accumulations will also be limited.
