Tahoe gets slammed, next storm favors Canada

Summary

A powerful early season storm brought 30-40+ inches of snow to the Tahoe region early this week. Another strong storm will impact the Northwest on Wednesday and Thursday with the heaviest snow expected across the higher elevations of British Columbia & Alberta. A weaker storm will bring snow to parts of the Rockies this weekend.

Short Term Forecast

Impressive early season storm for Tahoe

A powerful storm dropped 30-40+ inches of snow across Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Sunday and Monday. Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe have both announced they will be opening early for the season on Friday, October, 29th.

Check out the scene from the summit of Mt. Rose on Tuesday morning after the storm cleared. Mt. Rose reported 38-42 inches of snowfall on its upper mountain from this storm!

 

Forecast for Wed 10/27 – Thu 10/28

Weaker storms will bring light to moderate snow to the Pacific Northwest, Western Canada, and the Rockies on Wednesday. A stronger storm will then reach the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada on Wednesday night and Thursday with the heaviest snow expected across the higher elevations of British Columbia and Alberta.

Warmer air arriving will lead to rising snow levels and a change-over to rain for many areas in Washington and Southwest BC on Thursday.

Forecast for Fri 10/29 – Sat 10/30

Snow will linger across the Canadian Rockies on Friday. Light snow will also spread southward into Montana on Friday and Saturday, favoring areas near and east of the Continental Divide. A series of stronger storms will bring heavy snow to Alaska on both Friday and Saturday.

Forecast for Sun 10/31 – Mon 11/1

A storm will bring snow to parts of Wyoming and Colorado on Sunday and Monday with generally light amounts expected for most areas at this time. Farther north, heavy snow will continue to fall across South Central Alaska.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Tue 11/2 – Sat 11/6

Colorado and New Mexico could see some snow around the middle of next week. Otherwise, drier conditions are expected for much of the West with the main storm track retreating farther north into Northwest BC and Southeast Alaska. A cooler and more active pattern will take hold over Eastern North America and the higher elevations of New England could see snow at some point.
