Nice storm on the way for Utah & Colorado

Summary

A strong storm late this week will bring heavy snow to Utah and Western Colorado from Wednesday night through Friday. On Friday and Saturday, the Pacific Northwest will be hit with a powerful storm with deep snow totals expected. This storm will then progress southward into California on Sunday-Monday with heavy snow for Tahoe.

Short Term Forecast

Heavy snow on the way for Utah and Western Colorado

A strong storm will move across Utah and Colorado from Wednesday night through Friday, producing heavy snow across the Wasatch Range, including Snowbird, Alta, and Park City, as well as the western ranges of Colorado including Wolf Creek, Telluride, Crested Butte, Snowmass, and Steamboat.

Forecast for Wed 12/8 – Thu 12/9:

A storm will move across the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday, then will deepen into a stronger storm farther south on Wednesday night and Thursday with heavy snow developing across Utah and Colorado. Tahoe and the Sierra will also see a nice round of snow on the western edge of this storm.

A weak but cold storm will bring light snow to the Mid-Atlantic and New England on Wednesday and Thursday, while a stronger but short duration storm will bring a nice round of snow to the Upper Midwest on Thursday.

Forecast for Fri 12/10 – Sat 12/11:

Colorado will continue to see heavy snow on Thursday night and during the day on Friday while snow will begin to taper off over Utah. Northern Arizona and New Mexico will pick up some snow as well. Meanwhile, a powerful storm will take aim at the Northwest on Friday & Saturday with deep snow totals likely for Western British Columbia, Washington, and (eventually) Oregon, while Eastern BC and the Inland NW will pick up some good snow as well.

A strong storm will also impact the Upper Midwest on Friday and Saturday with heavy snow possible. This storm will be mostly a rain event for the East as mild air surges in from the south.

Forecast for Sun 12/12 – Mon 12/13:

Moderate to heavy snow will continue over the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Northern Rockies on Sunday and Monday, while the main focus of the storm will extend southward into the Sierra where deep snow totals are possible around Tahoe.

The East will see a cold front arrive with a few light snow showers or flurries on Sunday morning behind Saturday's rain event, followed by dry conditions on Monday. 

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Tue 12/14 – Sat 12/18:

The main storm track and heaviest snowfall potential will favor the Sierra Nevada Range including Tahoe during this period. The Cascades and the Northern/Central Rockies should also get in on the action from time to time.
