Early week pattern favors Canadian Rockies & New England
Summary
New England was hit with a good storm on Friday and skiing conditions will remain excellent early this week with two more storms expected. A strong but warm storm will impact the Northwest early this week with snow changing over to rain for the Northwest U.S. and parts of BC, while Eastern BC & the Canadian Rockies will see heavy snow. A colder storm will impact much of the West late this week.
Short Term Forecast
More snow on the way for New England
Ski resorts across New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire picked up 10-20 inches of snow this past Friday, setting the stage for a nice powder weekend. Two more refresher storms will move across New York and New England between Monday night and Thursday morning with additional light to moderate snow expected.
Forecast for Mon 2/28 – Tue 3/1:
Heavy snow will change over to heavy rain across the Pacific Northwest and much of Southwest BC (up to mid-mountain at Whistler) on Monday and Tuesday, while higher elevations of Interior/Eastern BC, as well as the Canadian Rockies in Alberta, will see precipitation remain as snow and will pick up heavy amounts.
A weaker storm will move across the Upper Midwest and Northeast on Monday and Tuesday with generally light snow expected.
Forecast for Wed 3/2 – Thu 3/3:
A storm will move across the Northwest with precipitation starting as rain for many ski areas on Wednesday before changing over to snow on Thursday as a cold front moves through. Another storm will impact the Northeast on Wednesday and early Thursday with light to moderate snow expected.
Forecast for Fri 3/4 – Sat 3/5:
A colder storm will impact a large portion of the West on Friday and Saturday, but confidence is low on which regions will see heavier versus lighter snow amounts. The Upper Midwest will also see a storm during this period, but uncertainty also exists for this region and there's a chance that rain or ice could enter the picture.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Sun 3/6 – Thu 3/10:
Colder than average temperatures will prevail across the West during this period with a northwest flow-oriented storm track. Snow will be possible across much of the Western U.S. during this time (less so for Canada) though storms may be on the weaker side. Temperatures will be on the increase across the Northeast during this period with a mix of snow and rain expected with storms that arrive.
