Snowy pattern throughout North America
Summary
It's been a fun week across the West with deep snow totals reported across the Rockies, Southwest, Sierra, and Northwest. The Upper Midwest also saw a big storm this week, and New England is closing out the week with a storm on Friday. The pattern this weekend and early next week will favor Western Canada with the Rockies & Sierra getting in on the action later next week.
Short Term Forecast
Deep snow totals recorded across the West this week
It's been quite a week across the Western U.S. as a major storm cycle has produced deep snow totals for many areas. The Southern Rockies were hit the hardest with deep totals but the Sierra, Cascades, and Northern Rockies scored as well.
Some notable snow totals over the 5-day period from Sunday (2/2) through Thursday (2/24) include 45" at Purgatory (CO), 41" at Brian Head (UT), 36" at Silverton (CO), 32" at Snowmass (CO), 31" at Telluride (CO), 27" at Arizona Snowbowl (AZ), 25" at Eagle Point (UT), 22" at Homewood (CA), 21" at Kirkwood (CA), and 21" at Timberline (OR).

Forecast for Fri 2/25 – Sat 2/26:
A storm will impact the Northeast on Friday with moderate to heavy snow for Central/Upstate New York and Northern New England, while Pennsyvlania, the Catskills, and Southern New England will see mixed precipitation, including ice.
The Rockies will see lingering flurries from a weak disturbance taper off early on Friday, then the next storm out west will bring snow to Alaska on Friday and the BC Coast Range and Northern Cascades beginning on Saturday.
Forecast for Sun 2/27 – Mon 2/28:
A storm will bring snow to Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest on Sunday, followed by a second storm involving subtropical moisture on Monday with additional snow for the Pacific Northwest & British Columbia, while snow levels will begin to rise with rain mixing in at ski areas in Oregon and parts of Washington by Monday afternoon.
A weak storm will also move across the Upper Midwest and Northeast on Sunday and Monday with generally light snow expected.
Forecast for Tue 3/1 – Wed 3/2:
Back-to-back storms involving mild temperatuers will impact the Northwest on Tuesday and Wednesday with high snow levels and a mix of rain and snow expected for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and far Southwest BC, while most of Southern BC will be on the colder side of the storm with heavy snow expected.
A series of weak storms will bring additional shots of light snow to the Upper Midwest and Northeast during this period as well.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Thu 3/3 – Mon 3/7:
A storm is likely to impact a large portion of the West around March 3rd-4th with colder air also arriving. The storm door will remain open out West later in this period as well. The Northeast will continue to see snow chances during this period as well, though we'll also have to keep an eye on the possibility of occasional warm air intrusions that could bring rain.
