Short Term Forecast
Impressive storm cycle underway for Colorado and the Southwest
It's been a fun week across the West so far with ski resorts in Southwest Colorado, Southern Utah, and Tahoe all reporting double-digit snow totals on Tuesday morning from the first wave. Purgatory, Colorado (pictured below) was one of the early winters with 14" of new snow reported on Tuesday. The good news is that more heavy snow is on the way for Colorado and the Four Corners region on Wednesday.

Forecast for Wed 2/23 – Thu 2/24:
Heavy snow will fall across Colorado, Southern Utah, Arizona, and Northern New Mexico on Wednesday & Wednesday night with deep totals adding up. A weak disturbance will move across Western Canada and the Northwest U.S. on Wednesday night and Thursday with flurries/light snow showers.
The Upper Midwest and Southeast Canada will see lingering snow early on Wednesday from the previous day's storm, while some areas of New York & New England could see rain change to light snow showers/flurries. As the next storm approaches, light snow showers are possible across PA/NY on Thursday afternoon.
Forecast for Fri 2/25 – Sat 2/26:
A stronger storm will impact the Northeast on Friday and Friday night with moderate to heavy snow for Upstate New York and Northern New England, while the Catskills, Pennsylvania, and possibly Southern New England will see mixed precipitation with more sleet/freezing rain than snow.
The West will see a quieter period with flurries across the Central Rockies on Friday followed by dry conditions on Saturday. Southeast Alaska and far Northwest BC will pick up more snow during this period.
Forecast for Sun 2/27 – Mon 2/28:
Back to back weak/moderate storms will impact the Northwest during this period with the BC Coast Range and WA Cascades scoring the deepest snow levels, though lower elevation areas could see borderline rain/snow issues with warmer temperatures expected.
A storm arriving from the northwest could also bring snow and colder temps to the Upper Midwest and much of the East during this period, though confidence is low on the details in terms of snowfall.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Tue 3/1 – Sat 3/5:
The pattern will turn more active again across the West during the first week of March with 1-2 storms likely. The Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies look to be the most favored, but the Sierra and Central Rockies could get in on the action as well. More snow is likely across New England and Upstate New York during this period as well.
Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Friday (2/25).
