Canadian Rockies and New England Favored This Week

Summary

Deep snow totals have added up across the Southwest over the past weekend. For the upcoming week, snowfall will gradually wane across the Southwest, while the next storms will favor the Northwest and especially the Canadian Rockies. New England will also see several rounds of snow this week.

Short Term Forecast

Recent Snow Totals:

Five-Day Snow Forecast:

A ridge of high pressure that has been in place over much of the West (from the Central Rockies and Sierra northward) will start to break down around mid-week, opening up the door to a colder and snowy pattern across the Northwest with the Canadian Rockies (Alberta and Eastern BC) favored for the deepest totals.

New England will also see an active pattern throughout the week with solid snow totals adding up over time.

Forecast for Mon (Mar 18) to Tue (Mar 19):

A storm will linger over the Southwest but will be weakening with lighter snow showers expected across Arizona and New Mexico. A colder airmass is in place across the East and a series of disturbances will bring snow showers to New England and New York.

Forecast for Wed (Mar 20) to Thu (Mar 21):

A storm arriving from the north/northwest will bring heavy snow to the Canadian Rockies of Alberta and also the Eastern Interior of BC with lighter snow further west toward the BC Coast and Washington Cascades. A storm will also move across Upstate New York and Northern New England with more snow expected.

Forecast for Fri (Mar 22) to Sat (Mar 23):

The next storm for the West is expected to track a little further south with snow possibly favoring the Sierra (low confidence) while the Northern U.S. Rockies and Canadian Rockies will also see snow. The pattern for the Northeast and New England is uncertain with some models hinting at a storm while others are hinting at a drier pattern.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Sun (Mar 24) to Thu (Mar 28):

The pattern looks active for the West with below-average temperatures and a storm track favoring the Cascades, Sierra, and Central Rockies. New England also looks to stay active but rain may become the more favored precipitation type.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Wednesday (March 20).
