Return to Reality

Summary

Warm, record-breaking, temperatures will give way to a system on Tuesday that will bring cooler temps and a chance for mountain snowfall to Northern Utah. We will warm back up later in the week.

Short Term Forecast

We continue to be warm to close out the weekend. Winds will increase along with clouds on Monday and slight cooling ahead of a system that will push into the region Monday night into Tuesday. We will see much cooler temps on Tuesday with chances for snow returning to the Northern Utah mountains.

GFS continues to be the strongest of the major models with the short-term NAM within range now and also relatively strong. Here is the latest (12z) NAM output for snowfall:

Showing the possibility for several inches in Northern Utah mountains. The Euro remains much weaker with more of a brush-by system. Right now, I think expectations should be low, but know that there is potential for a halfway decent powder day on Tuesday.

We should clear out and warm up by Wednesday into late-week.

Extended Forecast

Really hard to put a finger on the overall pattern. No strong signals in the models beyond 7 days. We could see chances for storms, or we could see high pressure and more spring-like weather.
