Utah Daily Snow

Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Utah Daily Snow

Cold and Dusted

Summary

A weak system has brought very cold air into the region and light snowfall amounts. We will see some warming this weekend as blocking high pressure continues to prevent significant snow from reaching Utah for the time being.

Short Term Forecast

In case you missed it, in yesterday's post I took a look at the snowpack situation as we closed out January and transitioned to February.

It is cold today! Temps on the mountain are frigid with 0 degrees right now at Alta-Collins. The good news is that it did snow. Most resorts reporting an inch or less. Cams at Alta right now suggest it could be slightly more than an inch:

Perhaps enough to soften up turns but be sure to bundle up as wind chills today will be sub-zero. Weirdly, I actually picked up significantly more snow in SL Valley bench than any resorts did. We had a band of snow drop from north to south down the Wasatch Front this morning. It picked up some lake enhancement and voila, 4" of snow at my house! Unfortunately, not enough forcing to push any of this precip into the mountains.

We will see snow showers continue in the cold, unstable airmass today. Clearing as we head toward the weekend with gradual warming to temperatures closer to normal. Unfortunately, I don't see much in the way of additional snow in the next week as high pressure will be blocking storms from reaching Utah.

Extended Forecast

Not much hope in the long-range forecast. EPS 10-day outlook still shows essentially nothing from any of its 51 members:

I think we will occasionally see weak systems drop to our east that will bring cooler air and chances for very light snow showers. If we search really, really hard for a glimmer of hope, perhaps we can find it after mid-month. GFS has the ridge moving far enough west to allow more substantial troughs to develop over the west. That's all I've got for now... It's not much...
