If snow falls on a closed mountain, did it even snow?

Summary

A storm will bring heavy snowfall to northern Utah mountains Friday into Saturday with significant spring accumulations. Warmer and quieter next week.

Short Term Forecast

No change from yesterday's forecast. Winds picking up today. Storm arrives Friday morning with heavy snow likely in the mountains Friday afternoon and evening with snow showers continuing into Saturday. I do think the post-frontal airmass looks a bit less conducive for additional accumulation as the flow will be less NW than it was looking earlier. Still, heavy precip is likely Friday afternoon and evening. WPC blend still showing 1-2" of liquid for the Wasatch high elevations:

Even if we assume conservative SLRs of 10:1 on average, that would bring 10-20" of new snow. I think that's a good range, but I would not be surprised to see the Cottonwoods exceed that in spots if things come together. Reminder, the only open mountains this weekend are in the Cottonwoods.

We clear out by Sunday as high pressure takes control.

Extended Forecast

Warmer and quieter weather for most of next week. We could see a chance of active weather return late next week into the following weekend.
