Snow Showers Today, Another Storm Midweek

Summary

Snow showers continue today. A break tonight into Tuesday before the next storm arrives by Tuesday night and brings mountain snow through early Thursday. Cold and snow showers likely Friday into the weekend.

Update

Snow began late yesterday evening and fell off and on overnight. Totals so far have been reported in the 3-7" range this morning for most areas. Alta-Collins liquid is now at 0.39". I'd say this is a bit less than I expected by this point as the snow hasn't been as consistently falling as anticipated. Snow showers continue today off and on. There is a front pushing through this afternoon that should provide an hour or two of heavier snow and then we taper off overnight. Another 4-8" of snow is expected today. That would bring totals to 7-15" which is likely to be shy of the 10-20" forecast from yesterday. Just not quite coming together as well as models were depicting.

The good news is that our break will be short on Monday night into Tuesday before the next storm rolls by Tuesday night with snow continuing into Thursday morning. This system is going to feature an abundant moisture stream out of the south. It sounds warm when said like that, but we actually have cold air already in place so snow levels should remain at 6000 feet or lower. GFS continues to show pockets of very high QPF for this storm:

Southern Utah should do well, as should Provo area mountains, PC/Cottonwoods and perhaps even in the Snowbasin/PowMow area. Total liquid should be in the 0.75-1.5" range but there could be a few pockets of higher. Another 10-20" is likely Tuesday PM through Thursday AM.

Another short break possible on Thursday into early Friday, but snow showers could continue. Then, a couple cold, weak systems move through late Friday into Saturday and again later in the weekend. These systems are COLD, especially for late March. Limited moisture means somewhat limited accumulation. But we could easily add at least several inches of fluff this weekend.

Models are completely out of phase next week. Euro is generally drier than the GFS but both have at least a threat of additional storms. Hoping for clarity as we get closer.
