Update

Welcome to the Winter Daily Snow for the 2018-2019 season!

I will write a fresh update every day through the end of the season in April 2019. We will talk about current snow conditions, the weather forecast, and especially when we can expect the next storms and deep powder days.

Our current snowpack is about 190% of average thanks to two early-season storm cycles in early October and early November. The mountain cams look amazing as the mountain is white from base to summit, and the natural snow depth is about 20 inches at mid-mountain.

The setup for Sunday's storm was not favorable for Winter Park as the best chance for snow was in the foothills east of the continental divide. Still, scattered snow showers hit the mountain on Sunday with about 1 inch of accumulation on the snow stake cam.

Now, temperatures on Monday morning are cold, around 0F, and readings will only warm to the teens on Monday afternoon. These chilly temperatures are great for snowmaking, which is ongoing across the mountain.

The rest of this week will be dry with high temperatures warming into the 20s on Tuesday and then the 30s on Wednesday (opening day!). Expect similar weather (dry, sunny, highs in the 30s) for Thursday and Friday as well. Also this week, overnight lows will be plenty cold enough for snowmaking to continue.

On Saturday, we might see more clouds and light snow showers as a weak storm brushes the northeastern corner of Colorado, then we’ll return to dry weather during the first half of Thanksgiving week.

Most longer-range models show a good chance for stormy weather to return starting close to Thanksgiving day and continuing into early December.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
