Update
Snow conditions
Thanks to over four feet of early-season snow, our snowpack is 185% of average and the natural snow depth is 20-30 inches at mid-mountain. What a way to start the season!
Opening day
The lifts will start spinning on Wednesday, November 14th. More details.
Monday recap
It was sunny and dry with a low of -5 to 0F and a high around 10F on the mountain. In other words, it felt like winter!
Tuesday
It’s another chilly morning with temperatures of 5-7F at the base and mid-mountain, but warmer at the summit with a reading of 19F. Colder air is denser and can sink to the valley, leaving the summit warmer on some mornings with light winds and mostly clear skies.
Low and mid-level clouds have invaded from the north early in the morning and these clouds will block some sunshine, though we should see the clouds move away by midday and afternoon. Temperatures will warm in the upper 20s by mid-afternoon, which is about 10-15 degrees warmer than Monday.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Each day will be dry, mostly sunny, and temperatures will start each morning in the teens and warm into the mid-to-upper 30s. Overnight lows will continue to be cold enough for efficient snowmaking.
Next chance for snow on Saturday & Sunday
We are going to get lucky this weekend. The storm track is generally to our north and east, but a weak storm will sneak south into Colorado and should bring light to moderate snow from sometime Saturday through sometime Sunday. An early estimate for snow totals is 1-6 inches. Based on this timing, Sunday morning might offer the best conditions of the weekend. How about that – fresh snow on the first weekend of the season;-)
Thanksgiving week
We will have dry weather on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then a more active weather pattern should move into the western US with the first storm hitting Colorado sometime between Thanksgiving Day and Monday, November 26th.
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
