Update

Season Wrap-Up

Reminder: Winter Park is closed, and Mary Jane will be open through May 12th.

In my final daily post on Monday, April 22, I provided a season overview with a snowpack graphic. Click here to see that discussion: https://opensnow.com/dailysnow/winterpark/post/15290

Tuesday Morning

Bah, the snow report of 4-5 inches is underwhelming.

We saw a few waves of intense snow hit on Monday afternoon and Monday night, but our total snowfall was on the low end or below the low end of the forecast range.

Other mountain ranges to the south and north of Winter Park picked up more snow, and we just didn’t happen to be in the right zone for the deepest totals.

If you’re skiing on Tuesday, get out as early as possible in the morning as I see some breaks of sunshine on the mountain cams, and sunshine during spring skiing will quickly turn the new snow into mush.

For the rest of the day on Tuesday, expect a mix of some sunshine, clouds, and showers with a few inches of snow accumulation.

Tuesday Night and Wednesday morning

Expect another round of intense snow from late Tuesday evening through Wednesday midday. This snow will be created by the jet stream overhead, and the jet stream can deliver intense snow over a narrow area. I still like 5-10 inches of accumulation, with snow falling through the morning hours on Wednesday. With this new snow and temperatures that will be just a bit cooler, the snow quality will be a little lighter and fluffier on Wednesday morning compared to Tuesday morning (not blower powder, but still fun).

After that, we’ll see dry weather from Thursday, May 2 through Tuesday, May 7, with another storm possible sometime between May 8-10.

Thanks for reading and check back for an update on Wednesday morning. After that, I will post when (if) additional storms head toward Winter Park / Mary Jane.
