Opening Day is still TBD but not before November 30th.

Following the 6 inches of snow on Monday night, snow showers dropped an additional 3 inches of snow during the day on Tuesday and then another 1 inch accumulated on Tuesday night. That brought us to a storm total of 10 inches which was on the upper end of the forecast range and feels like a great result from that storm.

On Wednesday, we’ll see dry and sunny weather. Morning temperatures in the single digits and teens will allow for efficient snowmaking.

On Thanksgiving, a weak storm will bring a chance for snow mostly from midday through the evening. We could see anything from a dusting to an inch or two of accumulation.

Then Friday through Monday should be dry and mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 20s.

Our next chance for a storm will be around December 1-2. Most models forecast this storm to be weak and we’ll be lucky if we see measurable snowfall.

I wish that I had better news, but from all the data that I look at, the forecast through the first half of December looks mostly dry. Of course, there could be a storm that surprises us as the details of 15+ day forecasts are unreliable, and let’s hope that this is the case.

The better news is that most of the longer-range models show a change toward a stormier pattern during the second half of December. Sometimes these pattern changes take longer to materialize compared to what the models forecast, but I won’t worry about that detail and for now will be closely monitoring the forecast a few weeks ahead to see if a snowier and colder storm track can develop over the Rockies.
