Opening Day is still TBD but not before November 30th.

Wednesday was a gorgeous day with sunshine and blue skies. On Wednesday night, temperatures dipped into the teens allowing for more snowmaking.

But we want the snow to fall from the sky – when will that happen?

On Thanksgiving Day, a weak system will bring more clouds during the midday, afternoon, and evening and maybe some snow showers as well. If we’re unlucky, we’ll see no flakes or just a few flakes. If we’re lucky, we’ll see a coating to an inch of snow.

Then Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be dry with high temperatures in the 20s.

The next chance for snow will be around Tuesday to Wednesday, December 1-2. This storm will be weak and lack moisture, but maybe if we’re lucky, the atmosphere will deliver some measurable snow. At the least, this storm should deliver cooler temperatures to aid snowmaking efforts.

The outlook from December 2-10 is for little or no additional snow. Maybe the atmosphere will surprise us with a storm, but right now, the odds for this are low.

I continue to be optimistic about the second half of December, though, as multiple long-range models are showing a shift to a stormier storm track across the west and here in Colorado. It only takes 2-3 weeks of stormy weather to get a lot of the mountain open, so fingers (and toes) crossed that the second half of December delivers the flakes.
