The forecast through Wednesday is very easy. Look for sunshine and comfortable temperatures with highs in the mid-30s to low-40s. Wear sunscreen and enjoy.

From Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening, we will see more clouds and cooler temperatures in the 20s to mid-30s, though there will likely be no snow.

The next storm will move through in multiple pieces between Thursday night and Saturday night. Because the storm will be broken into less-organized pieces and because this system will lack moisture, I am keeping my expectations on the low end and think that the snow total should be in the 3-6 inch range. There are some scenarios that show stronger and/or more prolonged storm energy, so maybe we’ll measure more than that range. The best chance to enjoy some softer snow should be on Saturday, December 12th.

We have been talking about a “more active pattern” setting up during the second half of December, and with every new forecast model that comes out, I see more and more hints that this more active pattern will come to fruition.

Following the storm on December 11-12, there could be three additional systems:

- Tuesday and Wednesday, December 15-16

- Thursday, December 17

- Tuesday, December 22

We are still many days from these storms and it is premature to talk about snow totals. Even so, I am getting excited at the likelihood of a stormier pattern with a chance of snow every few days, and, if the atmospheric factors come together just right, the chance for real powder days in our (not-so-distant) future.
