Snow on Thursday at Winter Park

Summary

We’ll see snow on Thursday into Thursday evening, then spring skiing weather will return from Friday through early next week. The next chance for more snow will be during the middle and end of next week.

Short Term Forecast

Wednesday was another beautiful day with sunny skies and a high temperature in the 30s to low 40s.

Now on Thursday morning, the next storm has moved into southern Colorado. During the morning, snow could start as on-then-off squalls, then during Thursday midday, afternoon, and early evening, we should see a transition to steadier snow when the wind direction becomes more favorable (from the west and west-northwest).

I’ll keep my forecast to the 4-8 inch range as we talked about in previous updates, though again, with a lot of moisture in the air and the storm strengthening as it moves past Colorado, there is a chance for an upside surprise with 10+ inches.

The snow quality will be on the thicker side due to warm temperatures, and the best chance to enjoy this new snow should be around Thursday’s last chair as well as Friday morning’s first chair since we should see snow continue for at least a few hours after the lifts close on Thursday afternoon.

Extended Forecast

Friday, March 5 through Tuesday, March 9 will be warm with high temperatures in the 30s and 40s and partly to mostly sunny skies. These will be classic spring skiing/riding days. There is a small chance for a few showers on Saturday night into Sunday and also on Tuesday, but odds favor just dry weather.

Wednesday, March 10, and Thursday, March 11 could be transition days with more clouds, cooler temperatures, and a chance for at least light snow.

Friday, March 12 to Saturday, March 13 is when we should see our best chance for more significant snowfall.

If you’re looking for spring-like conditions, target this Friday through next Tuesday. And if you’re looking for colder weather and possible powder, target the end of next week into the following weekend.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
