Tracking next week's storms

Summary

Saturday will be warm, then Sunday and Monday will be cooler. Next week, two storms could deliver significant snowfall.

Update

Friday was yet another warm and sunny day.

At least morning temperatures have been cold enough for snowmaking near the base.

Saturday will be warm and sunny with a high temperature in the 30s and 40s on the hill.

Sunday and Monday will be cooler days with highs in the 20s and 30s. On Sunday, there might be a few flurries and winds will be gusty.

The next storm will arrive on Monday afternoon/evening and deliver snow through Tuesday afternoon with snow showers ending on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This storm will bring decent moisture (a good thing) but its energy could split apart as it moves near Colorado (a bad thing). I'll go with a lower-end forecast of 2-4 inches. A wind from the west is not perfect for Winter Park, so I am keeping my expectations on the lower side. But the high amount of moisture in the air gives us the possibility of more-than-expected snowfall.

Wednesday and Thursday are tough to pin down. We could see anything from dry weather to continued snowfall with some accumulation each day. I'll try to narrow down the forecast over time.

Late next week, a second and stronger storm should bring significant snow to Colorado from Thursday night through Saturday morning. With lots of moisture and the storm energy tracking right over Colorado, snow totals could hit double-digits across the state. But it's still a little early to discuss snowfall at each particular mountain. The bottom line is that the late-week storm could bring more snow than the early-week storm.

Thanks for reading and please check back each morning for daily updates!
