December 2023 Snowpack Update

Ski resorts in the central Rockies kicked off December with two healthy storm storms but it's now back to the waiting game. Outside of the Rockies, the snowpack for most areas continues to sit below average as we quickly approach the holiday season.

The map below shows the percentage of snowpack compared to the 1991-2020 median snowpack for December 15, 2023. Red is well below average, yellow and green are below to near average, and blue/purple is well above average.

This map is based on the weight of the snow on the ground, measured by automated backcountry weather stations called SNOTEL.
