Trough in east, ridge in west

The map of total precipitation from Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows one storm hanging out around San Diego (southern California), just weak systems slipping down from Washington state along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, and a good bit of rain (and some snow) for the northern midwest and northern New England. Basically, the storm track is heading from the Pacific Ocean into Canada, then dropping southeast toward the mid Atlantic areas. This "trough in the east, ridge in the west" pattern looks to hang out for the foreseeable future (through about the first 7-10 days of December).
