Showers As We Enter May

Update

Thursday, April 26 - We've had generally quiet spring weather over the past 8 days or so.  We do, however, have a slight change coming.  A closed low system will meander its way into the Great Basin this weekend into early next week.  Not too impressive of a system, but it's slow moving so it will stick around for awhile.  Despite a lack of moisture or organization, we should still see chances for showers this weekend into early next week, particularly in the higher terrain.  We will also see a cooling trend with snow levels dropping low enough for snow up above 8000 feet.  This time of year, it really doesn't take too much to get scattered showers, especially in the afternoon hours when all you need is a bit of moisture and then daytime heating a can destabilize the atmosphere.

Deep powder? Probably not.  But there could be some soft turns up high at times early next week.  You can see that we may see .5-1" of liquid next week which could be several inches of cream.

Timing the best precip will be difficult, so if you're hoping for some good turns, keep a close watch on radar and webcams and be ready to head up when good snow starts falling.

Still planning to do a season wrap-up soon where I'll look back at this season.  It will likely be posted on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
