A Week-Long Dry & Settled Spell After 20cm of Fresh Snow on the Weekend
Summary
Australian resorts are all looking great after around 20cm fell during the weekend. This week, high pressure brings a long dry, settled spell to the Australian Alps, providing plenty of sunshine and great conditions for kids on school holidays to get up and amongst it all.
Short Term Forecast
Current Conditions
A storm over the weekend dropped around 20cm on Australian ski resorts. Victorian resorts were on the winning side as a lot of that fell to base levels. However, in New South Wales temperatures were a little too warm and the lower slopes mostly just copped a whole lot of rain - nearly 55mm of it!
Temperatures have since been cold so a lot of man-made powder has also been added to the main runs, and with the groomers moving snow down from the upper slopes, all of the resorts are looking great from top to bottom for the start of the school holidays.
Forecast for Monday to Sunday (1st to 7th July)
Slow-moving high pressure takes control of our charts for the week ahead, making for one of the easiest and quickest forecasts I've done in a long time. The weather will be mostly clear and sunny for the entire week with light and chilly breezes from the east-to-southeast. The only caveat to this is a little bit of low-level cloud about on Monday and Thursday, then some building high cloud on Sunday as northerly winds develop. The snowmakers will also keep pumping out the man-made snow, keeping the groomed runs nice and chalky.
Extended Forecast
Next week, a weak storm system may bring rain showers on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July. Then a stronger storm has the potential to bring snow from about Thursday the 11th to Saturday the 13th of July.
Thanks for reading. I'll keep these forecasts coming every Monday, Wednesday & Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
