A Dusting Up High Saturday Amongst a Wet Few Days
Summary
A front will bring rain to the Australian Alps today, with snow levels dropping to 1600-1700m by Saturday, accumulating 2-7cm. Southeast winds may bring more showers on Sunday, but it will be too warm for snow. A ridge will bring calmer and brighter weather on Monday.
Short Term Forecast
Friday & Saturday (16th & 17th August)
Resorts will enjoy a pleasant start on Friday, though patchy drizzle is anticipated by mid-morning. In the afternoon, rain will move eastward over Victoria with some heavy showers, reaching New South Wales later in the evening. NW winds will be strong. As the night progresses and colder air settles in, the rain will transition to snow at higher elevations.
Intermittent rain will occur on Saturday, turning into snow above 1600-1700m, with potential accumulation of 2-7cm. By evening, the rain and snow will diminish as NW winds shift to SW, but Mt Baw Baw may still see precipitation overnight.
Sunday & Monday (18th to 19th August)
Gusty SE winds on Sunday will bring in clouds and some drizzle, but conditions should improve later in the afternoon as the winds subside.
Monday will be partly cloudy with light winds, and a few brief showers might occur in the afternoon.
Extended Forecast
N-NW winds will bring rain showers early in the week, with a cold front on Thursday that might result in a light snow dusting. High pressure should then clear the skies, leading to a nice day on Friday.
Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
