Hairdryer Northwesterlies End, Chilly & Damp Sunday & Monday

Summary

Thursday night was warm and windy with gusts up to 124 km/h at Thredbo; strong winds will continue today before easing with rain tonight, bringing calmer weather for Saturday, but cooler winds and murky conditions return Sunday and Monday with a chance of light snow at higher elevations, while only a few resorts remain open on a limited snow cover.

Short Term Forecast

Friday & Saturday (6th & 7th September)

Expect a sunny day Friday with warm northwesterly winds reaching severe gale in exposed areas, which may impact lift operations. Clouds will gather in the afternoon, followed by rain moving eastward in the evening.

Rain will clear from the west in the early morning Saturday, with northwest winds calming to a light westerly, leading to a sunny and peaceful day.

Sunday & Monday (8th & 9th September)

Sunday and Monday will be mostly cloudy with showers, occasional snow at higher elevations, and brisk northwest to westerly winds.

Tuesday & Wednesday (10th & 11th September)

Clearer and warmer skies are expected on Tuesday as light winds shift to the northwest, with similar conditions continuing into Wednesday.

Extended Forecast

A stray low-pressure system might move north of the Australian Alps on Thursday, pulling in southerly winds during the latter part of next week, which could bring rain showers and possibly some snow.

Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
