A skiff of Snow as More Resorts Close this Weekend

Summary

A brief break from the snowmelt will come with cooler southerlies on Thursday, bringing light snow to higher elevations. This weekend, stronger southerlies will bring more snow showers to lower levels. After the weekend, only Perisher is expected to stay open, as Falls Creek, Charlotte Pass, and Thredbo will close for the season.

Short Term Forecast

Wednesday to Friday (11th to 13th September)

Expect a mostly fine day Wednesday with high clouds and warm northwest winds, with light showers in western Victoria moving east overnight and turning to snow on the peaks. Thursday will bring clouds and light showers to the Australian Alps, with snow on higher elevations, followed by a clear, sunny day on Friday with light southwest breezes.

The Weekend (14th & 15th September)

Colder, stronger southerlies will replace southwest winds on Saturday, bringing light snow showers. Skies will clear on Sunday as high pressure moves over the Australian Alps.

Extended Forecast

Late next week, a brief period of rain is expected before a strong, cold front brings snow to lower levels. Unfortunately, only Perisher will be open to enjoy the fresh snow, but it will still be a welcome sight.

Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
