Winter Returns with a Little Snow in the Short Term & More in the Long Term

Summary

Wintry temperatures are expected as cooler air reaches the Aussie Alps. A cold southerly will bring a dusting of snow on Saturday, with clear weather Sunday and more snow showers on Monday in western Victoria. Thredbo and Falls Creek have closed, and Charlotte Pass will close Sunday, leaving Perisher open with a chance of more snow in the forecast.

Short Term Forecast

The Weekend (14th & 15th September)

Snow showers will move over Victoria on Saturday morning and New South Wales by midday, turning to a colder southerly wind. The snow will clear by evening, leaving 3-6cm, with up to 10cm on exposed terrain. Sunday will be clear as cold southerly winds ease.

Monday to Wednesday (16th to 18th September)

Strong southwest winds will bring clouds and snow showers to western Victoria, with a chance of light snow elsewhere. Skies will clear by Tuesday as winds shift northwest, staying clear on Wednesday, though the northwest winds will strengthen to gale force in exposed areas.

Extended Forecast

A weak front may bring light snow on Thursday, followed by a stronger system potentially delivering a heavier snowfall next weekend.

Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
