Strong, Chilly Winds Bring More Snow Later This Week

Summary

Winter made a come back to the Australian Alps with 5cm of snow over the weekend and another 10cm expected Monday at Mt Baw Baw. Skies will clear Tuesday, but severe gale-force northwest winds are expected Wednesday. From Thursday, temperatures will drop, bringing snow showers that may turn to rain on lower slopes.

Short Term Forecast

Monday to Wednesday (16th to 18th September)

Strong southwest winds on Monday bring clouds and snow showers to western Victoria down to 1400m. Tuesday will be mostly clear with strong west to southwest winds in exposed areas. Wednesday will have sunny skies, but severe gale northwesterlies are expected in exposed areas.

Thursday & Friday (19th &  20th September)

Snow showers on Thursday will turn to rain on lower slopes amid strong westerlies, reaching severe gale in exposed areas. Tough conditions continue Friday with strong westerly winds and ongoing snow showers.

Extended Forecast

The upper slopes may get 10-20cm of snow, but snow levels will rise on Friday, bringing wet conditions to lower slopes. High pressure is expected to clear things up early next week.
