Tropical Winter Solstice
Summary
Officially today is the first day of Winter and we’re talking about high temperatures at 9000’ in the mid-30’s. Whoa…Well, Tuesday’s cold front will take care of that, as well as bring along 4-8” of Holiday freshies to remind everyone that Winter is still alive in Montana.
Update
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 38 degrees in the Village and 30 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). Skies are currently cloudy/overcast over both Lone and Andesite Mountains.
This morning looks to be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a flurry or two. SW winds have decreased but are still in the 15-20mph range with gusts up to 35mph. Clouds will generally clear out by noon for a partly sunny afternoon. High temps at 8800’ will approach 35 degrees on this first day of Winter!
Extended Forecast:
The next storm system, a cold front will start impacting the areas around first chair Tuesday and bring moderate to heavy snow showers through the day with 4-8” to the mountain on Tuesday. SW winds of 20-25mph with gusts up to 35mph will be present on the exposed ridge tops. Temps will be dropping all day with afternoon temps around 14 degrees at 8800’. Snow showers will taper off Tuesday night with an additional inch or two. High-pressure is quick to build on Wednesday for a clear and cold day (high of 10 degrees at 8800’) and looks to bring sunny skies with slightly moderating temps daily into Christmas Day and the weekend beyond.
