Snow on its Way
Summary
A cold front is currently making its way over the Continental Divide and should start triggering snow showers at Big Sky by late morning. Snow will fall through the afternoon and into this evening along with plummeting temperatures. Storm totals of 4-8” are likely by tonight. The sun returns Wednesday and lasts through Christmas Day.
Update
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 36 degrees in the Village and 28 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). Skies are currently cloudy/overcast over both Lone and Andesite Mountains.
Tuesday morning stays overcast with snow showers starting in earnest around 11am-ish. Snow will then become moderate to heavy through the afternoon hours with around 4” by last chair. If a secondary low does what it’s supposed to do, then the snow should continue into the evening with another 2-4” possible. During all this snow activity temperatures will be plummeting from the upper 20’s to the teens to the single digits by this evening. West winds will be felt across the mountains blowing at 25mph with gusts to 35mph. It will be blustery this afternoon and will feel like a real Montana winter out there finally.
Extended Forecast:
High-pressure returns on Wednesday for a clear, cold and sunny day with a high of 14 degrees at 8500’ with light to moderate SW winds. Clear, cold and sunny will be the outlook for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with high temps both days rising into the mid-20’s at 8500’. Unsettled skies return on Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned…
