Summary
Tuesday’s cold front worked well with an Alberta surface low to deliver 5“ of low density pow. Now the sun returns for a crispy cold Big Sky December kind of day to enjoy smokey freshies. The sun looks to stick around daily through Christmas with chilly seasonal temps. Chances for snow return Saturday and Sunday.
Update
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 12 degrees in the Village and 4 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). 5” fell in the last 24-hours (measured at Headwaters). Skies are currently cloudy, with partial clearing observed over both Lone and Andesite Mountains. Currently at the top of Andesite winds are blowing out of the West/NW at 12mph with gusts to 30mph.
This morning’s clouds will start to slowly clear off as high-pressure builds through the morning. It will be cold with mid-mountain temps staying in the single digits through around noon. Into the afternoon, some sunny spells will be seen with high temps only rising to around 14 degrees at 8500’. West/NW winds will add to the chill at 15mph with gusts to 30mph.
Extended Forecast:
Clear, less cold with abundant sun will be the outlook for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Less cold meaning high temps both days rising into the mid-20’s at 8500’. Unsettled skies return on Saturday with 3-5” possible. Snow showers continue into Sunday morning before clearing. Things look to fully clear out Monday before unsettled weather returns towards the middle of next week. Stay tuned as the details unfold. Enjoy the pow and be respectful of others!
