Summary
Fifty miles to the south of Big Sky at West Yellowstone the NWS is calling for up to a foot of snow through Thursday in the mountains showing just how close we are to the moisture flow. Big Sky unfortunately looks to lie on the cutting edge just north of this flow. Better news, a weak disturbance Friday afternoon and night should bring 2-4” into Saturday morning.
Short Term Forecast
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 3 degrees in the Village and 4 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). No new snow was reported in the last 24-hours. Currently there is a mix of clear skies and clouds over Lone and Andesite Mountains. East winds at the top of Andesite are currently blowing at 6mph with a recent gust to 12 mph.
Today expect a cold and partly sunny morning with increasing clouds by late morning bringing chances of snow flurries into this afternoon. Temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will again be chilly with a high around 16 degrees. South winds will be at 10-15 mph with gusts to 35 mph up on the ridgetops.
Extended Forecast:
A few isolated flurries continue overnight Wednesday with no accumulations expected. Thursday will be a mostly cloudy day with flurries developing around noon with much warmer daytime temps with a high of 24 at 9000’. Friday starts off cloudy with light snow expected to develop around noon and continue through Friday night with storm totals of 2-4” possible into Saturday morning. Saturday will see cloudy skies, a few snow showers and afternoon sunny spells with continued above average daytime temps. Sunday and Monday look to be dry with chances of snow returning next Tuesday.
