Sunny Groundhog Day / Snow Tonight and Wednesday

Summary

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, so winter is going to stick around even longer! This coincides perfectly for the remainder of the week as we will transition from a beautiful sunny and warm day today to heavy snow tonight and Wednesday with even heavier snow and very cold temps on Friday and Saturday. Storm totals of 5 to 10 inches by Wednesday night, and 8 to 12 on Friday too!

Today:  

At 7:00AM it’s 18 degrees in the Village and 26 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). No new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are partially clear with some high clouds over Lone and Andesite Mountains. SE winds at the top of Andesite are currently blowing at 6 mph with a recent gust to 18 mph.  

Today expect a partly sunny and breezy day with a few scattered high clouds in the mix. Temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will again be warm with a high around 30 degrees. Winds will be more prominent today blowing from the South/SW from at 15-25 mph with afternoon gusts to 40 mph up on the ridge tops.  

Extended Forecast:

Tuesday night, clouds increase with snow developing before midnight with 3-5 inches likely overnight. Wednesday still looks promising with another 2 to 4 inches likely through the day. Wednesday night wrap around snow showers could bring another 1-2 inches. A partly sunny and cold day is in store for Thursday with a high of 14 degrees at 9000’. A burst of moisture moves in Thursday night clashing with arctic air advancing south from Canada for heavy snow that looks to last through the day Friday with storm totals 8 to 12 inches possible. Unsettled, cold and snow showery weather looks to stick around through the weekend.
