One Two Punch

Summary

Four inches registered at Headwaters stake this morning and it’s still coming down with another 2 to 4 inches through the day Wednesday. Wednesday night, another few inches are likely before clearing out Thursday. That was the first punch. The second is a knock out and it arrives Thursday night and continues into Saturday with 10 to 16 inches of cold smoke.

Short Term Forecast

At 7:00AM it’s 20 degrees in the Village and 12 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). 4 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are cloudy with light snow falling over Lone and Andesite Mountains. South/SW winds at the top of Andesite are currently blowing at 4 mph with a recent gust to 12 mph.

Today expect the snow to continue in various intensities through the day with an additional 2 to 4 inches likely. Temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will range from 12 to 15 degrees. Winds will be less prominent today blowing from the West/NW from at 8- 12 mph with gusts to 20 mph up on the ridgetops.

Extended Forecast:

Wednesday night snow showers look to bring another 1-2 inches overnight. A partly cloudy and cold day is in store for Thursday with a high of 15 degrees at 9000’. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the region from Thursday evening all the way to around noon on Saturday for heavy snow. A NW flow of moisture moves in Thursday night clashing with arctic air advancing south from Canada for heavy snow that looks to last through the day Friday with storm totals 8 to 12 inches possible by last chair. Snow continues overnight Friday with another 3 – 5 inches likely. Unsettled, cold and snow showery weather looks to stick around Saturday. Sunday looks to offer partial clearing with a few flurries as well. Now, that’s a forecast I can live with!
