Winter Storm on Track

Summary

Three inches registered at Headwaters stake this morning which is always a good thing. It’s been tough trying to forecast the arrival of an arctic blast and a NW storm system but as it appears now, snow will start later this afternoon and continue off and on thru Friday night with 8 -12” storm totals likely. Another round on Saturday/Saturday night should bring another 3 – 5”.

Update

Today:

At 7:00AM it’s 11 degrees at the 8800’ level of Lone Mountain. 3 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are cloudy with fog over the top of Lone Mountain.

Today expect mostly cloudy skies with snow developing in the latter afternoon hours. Temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will range from 12 to 14 degrees. Winds will be blowing from the West from at 12 -16 mph with afternoon gusts to 30 mph up on the ridgetops. It will be a chilly day.

 Extended Forecast:

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the region from Thursday evening all the way to around noon on Saturday for heavy snow. A NW flow of moisture moves in Thursday night clashing with arctic air advancing south from Canada for a snow event that looks to last through the day Friday with storm totals 8 to 12 inches possible by last chair. Snow picks up again Saturday afternoon and again on Saturday late night with 3 – 5” inches into Sunday morning. Highs at 9000’ on Saturday will be around 18 degrees.

Unsettled, extremely cold, and snow showery weather looks to stick around Sunday with another inch or two during the day. High temperatures Sunday up on the mountain (9000’) will barely reach 10 degrees. Monday looks to offer partial clearing with continued extremely cold temps.

Powder Out –
