The Storm has Arrived
Summary
Five inches and counting at 7am, the storm has started, and it looks to keep revving through the day today with another 4 to 8 inches by last chair. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect through Sunday at 5pm for storm totals of up to 2 feet. Arctic air enters the area Sunday that will bring in the coldest temps of the winter so far that look to last into most of next week.

Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 17 degrees in the Village and 12 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 5 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are cloudy with heavy snow falling over Lone and Andesite mountains.
Today expect snow, heavy at times with 4 to 8 inches by evening. Temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will range from 15 to 18 degrees. Winds will be blowing from the NW from at 15 -20 mph with afternoon gusts to 35 mph up on the ridgetops.
Extended Forecast:
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the region from today the way to Sunday at 5pm for heavy snow. A NW flow of moisture is clashing with cold Canadian air for the biggest snow event of the season so far at Big Sky. Friday night into Saturday afternoon look for snow to lighten up a bit with an additional 3 to 6 inches. Snow picks up again Saturday night and into Sunday with another 4 – 8” inches into Sunday afternoon. Highs at 9000’ on Saturday will be around 18 degrees. Highs on Sunday drop to around 10.
Unsettled, extremely cold, and snow showery weather looks to stick around Monday along with some sunny spells. High temperatures Monday up on the mountain (9000’) will barely reach 8 degrees. Tuesday looks to offer similar conditions with continued extremely cold temps. The cold looks to stick around through next week.
