More Snow on the Way
Summary
A wind driven 7 inches has fallen in the last 24-hours with 2 to 4 more to fall through the day Saturday. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through 5pm Sunday for continued snow. Arctic air pushes into Big Sky Saturday night into Sunday bringing in the coldest temps of the winter so far along with 6 to 12 inches of cold smoke.
Update
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 23 degrees in the Village and 14 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 7 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are cloudy with light snow falling over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the West/SW at 5 moh with gusts to 17 mph.
Today expect snow in varying intensities through the day with 2 to 5 inches possible through 4pm. Temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will range from 17 to 20 degrees. Gusty winds will be blowing from the West/SW from at 15 - 20 mph with afternoon gusts to 35 mph up on the ridgetops.
Extended Forecast:
With the approaching arctic front, snow picks up again Saturday night and continues into Sunday with cumulative snow totals of 6 – 12 inches into last chair. Sunday will be a day for the hearty, with upper mountain highs reaching 10 degrees at 2pm. Blustery west winds will contribute to the chill.
Unsettled, extremely cold, and a few more inches of feathery snow are in store for Monday along with moderate West/SW winds. High temperatures Monday up on the mountain at 9000’ will barely reach 10 degrees. Tuesday looks to clear the skies and bring in the sun but with frigid air dominating, with single digit highs. Not exactly great news, but it turns even colder Wednesday and Thursday, with highs around zero both days, but at least the sun will shine. On Friday, continued dry and frigid with a high rising to around 5. Ugh. Crazy 20/21 season so far.
Powder Out –
