Just a few showers, next storm on Sunday

Summary

We were looking forward to a stronger storm today and tonight (Wednesday into Thursday) but that storm has split around Colorado and we’ll only see clouds and a few showers through Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be dry, sunny, and warm. Then we should see light-to-moderate snow on Sunday and Monday.

Short Term Forecast

It’s Wednesday morning and instead of seeing mountain cams showing a snowy scene, the storm has split around Colorado and we are left with clouds and just a few showers.

The national radar on Wednesday morning shows precipitation to our south in New Mexico, and also to our north and east, but not much in Colorado.

For Wednesday, Wednesday night, and Thursday look for a mix of clouds, a few showers, and just light snow accumulations over the northern mountains. The main impact of this storm will likely be the clouds, which should stick around the northern mountains through most of Thursday.

Friday and Saturday will be beautiful spring days with lots of sunshine and high temperatures in the 40s to near 50F. The only wrinkle will be a few more clouds by Saturday afternoon.

Extended Forecast

The next chance for snow should arrive on Saturday night and continue through Monday night. This is a weak and rather warm system, so I do not expect big accumulations for most mountains. Right now, the model average snow forecasts show a chance for a few inches of snow on all mountains, and the best chance for deeper accumulations near and east of the continental divide from later on Sunday into Monday.

Looking out into the 10-15 day forecast, through late April and into early May, I do not see any cold storms heading our way. I am sure we’ll see more snow, but the chance for a deep, cold powder day is low at the moment.

Thanks for reading!

My next update will be on Thursday morning.
